LESSON 4

Softening the Need for Control

6 min read

Control feels like safety, so we reach for it. We check accounts, we rework spreadsheets, we replay conversations, we plan every possible outcome. And for a moment, the anxiety quiets.

But control is a demanding companion. The more we feed it, the hungrier it gets. And the version of us that lives inside constant control is exhausted, not safe.

Softening isn't the same as letting go. It's making a little more room for the parts of life that will always be uncertain, and trusting that we can meet them when they come — instead of trying to prevent them all in advance.
